I am still in the process of becoming a tea expert, so green tea aficionados might not want to take my verdict at face value. However, I have tried my fair share of green teas by now and this one is among my favorites so far! It is incredibly velvety, smooth and elegant, but at the same time intense. It resteeps well t...

Really great tea! The aroma is fruity and floral and the taste is floral as well without tasting soapy at all. It is also very smooth and thick bodied with little astringency. Overall a very wonderful tea and I would buy it again.

Japan Sencha Organic (No. 700) from TeaGschwendner

Style: Sencha – Region: Japan

40 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 25th, 2020

Half-litre pot at home, made from a sample included in the tea company's Advent Tea Calendar (2020) and consisting of very fine Sencha leaves, some of them even pulverised - not a good sign in a tea from a respectable company selling quality products. Pours clear very pale green (against white china), with no sediment....

Half-litre pot at home, made from a sample included in the tea company's Advent Tea Calendar (2020) and consisting of leaves of green mao feng tea. Pours clear pale straw (against white china) with no sediment. Clear aroma of green tea, mild but with notes of beans and fart - I guess I will never become a fan of the sc...

Picture of South Korea Seogwang

South Korea Seogwang from TeaGschwendner

Style: Green Tea – Region: Jeju, South Korea

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 10th, 2020

This tea reminded me somewhat of Sencha, but also of Lung Ching. Slightly grassy/vegetal, but not too much and pretty smooth instead.
I was very disappointed though because I could not manage to get a second cup worth drinking - it was simply too bland (therefore the lower rating for value)

Sencha Yabukita Organic from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Green Tea – Region: Kagoshima, Japan

90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 22nd, 2020

This sencha does not taste or smell like anything else that I can think of. It is complex and nutty, with some broth, toasted rice, and lychee in the flavor and aroma. It is mostly lacking the sharp, capsicum/grass flavor common to inexpensive green teas. It is not a bargain, but I think it is a worthwhile purchase ...

Upton Organic Tamaryokucha from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Green Tea – Region: Japan

75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 1/5
Oct. 16th, 2020

Every once in a while, this low income dude likes to have a taste of what the rich imbibe. In this case, rich Japanese, probably. At the princely price of around $14 per ounce, this just might be the most expensive tea I have ever tried. And my predictable reaction is that it is not worth that kind of money, but it ...

A green tea from Korea that has some lightly smoky, earthy bite to it. It is robust but does not cross the line into nastiness, and sells for a reasonable price. I would gladly pick this up again.

Kona-cha from Maeda-en

Style: Green Tea – Region: Japan

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 27th, 2020

This was a very interesting tea. If you don't know what kona-cha is, it is the dust and tea leaf pieces from tea processing. It is technically a byproduct, but the tea industry has repurposed it as a tea product. It's better quality than the pieces of leaves one might encounter in a tea bag, because the tea leaves used...

Everyday Houji-cha Roasted Green Tea from Maeda-en

Style: Hojicha – Region: Japan

88 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 27th, 2020

I was very impressed by this tea. The only other hoji-cha I've tried was from YamaMotoYama, and I enjoyed it. But, this had a more toasty, well-rounded scent to it. The leaves differed more in their shape and appearance, which made it look more natural. The tea also had a more nuanced flavor.

It wasn't that expensi...

Everyday Kukicha Twig Tea from Maeda-en

Style: Kukicha – Region: Japan

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 9th, 2020

I liked this tea. I decided to get it because I wanted something that wasn't roasted or aged, that would still be more subdued in caffeine. I prefer naturally low-caffeine teas over ones that have had caffeine removed through some chemical (or other) process. Because kukicha is the twigs, with some leaf pieces (which y...

Kokyu Sen-cha Green Tea (2020) from Maeda-en

Style: Sencha – Region: Japan

70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 9th, 2020

Update:
I found a way to brew it better. 80ÂșC water, 110ml water per 2 tsp of tea, 20 seconds for the first cup, 20-25 seconds for the second cup... The tea is very, very grassy. It's more grassy than any other sencha I've ever had (or any green tea, for that matter). It's not buttery. It's more like brewing a nice, ...

Saemidori Sen-cha Fukamushi (2020) from Maeda-en

Style: Green Tea – Region: Kagoshima, Japan

85 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 7th, 2020

I was surprised at how good this was. I took a chance because Maeda-en really has terribly short descriptions of their teas on their site. I really didn't know what I'd get. The tea, in terms of the type of leaves, length of them, scent, and color, actually reminded me more of Shin-cha than other Fukamushi. The leaves ...

"Ara Cha" Premium Japanese Green Tea from Takaokaya

Style: Aracha – Region: Shizuoka, Japan

82 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 3rd, 2020

I purchased this at a Cantonese grocery store in Edison, NJ.

I really liked this. It is a high-end Japanese tea, but is unsorted, meaning that it also contains larger pieces of leaf and stem, something that is often missing from the higher-quality teas. As such I find it has a bolder flavor and more complex aroma.

Style: Shincha – Region: Japan

May. 29th, 2020

I was surprised, but also not, about this super premium shincha. You see, I know my tastes and I know that I've loved some "cheap" teas because even though they were inexpensive, they were great teas. I've also had some disappointing experiences with really expensive teas. So, I purchased this with that knowledge somew...

Sen-cha Fukamushi Green Tea Select from Maeda-en

Style: Sencha – Region: Japan

95 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 13th, 2020

This is a great, fresh fukamushi-cha. I really enjoyed it. I actually got three cups out of 2tsp of leaves, rather than just two cups (the typical amount for this kind of tea). It's very full-bodied, has the typical cloudiness and rich flavor of fukamushi (which is extra steamed).

I went with a lower temperature bec...

Style: Shincha – Region: ?????

100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 12th, 2020

This is, easily, the most striking tea that I've ever had in my life -- and I've had hundreds.

First of all, the scent was lightly fruity at the same time that it exhibited notes similar to the umami gyokuro green tea. The color was the most rich green I'd ever seen. I think the description had said that it leans to...

Australian Sencha from The Tea Centre

Style: Sencha – Region: Australia

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 4th, 2020

I know this might sound like a strange criticism, but I think that the worst thing about this tea is that it's been labeled "sencha." I say this because the profile of this tea in terms of taste and scent doesn't match the ideal for a sencha. But, it has a very good, very unique profile, in my opinion. The disappointme...

This has a pleasant, grassy aroma that comes thru clearly. The dominant flavor is herbal bitterness, but it does not become overbearing when brewed according to the directions. The price could not be better for an organic product. This is a good choice for an everyday green tea.

This is the last of a set of food-service Liptons I got from a cafeteria, an individually wrapped bag that I finally have gotten around to trying and rating a couple months later.

The dry bag had little aroma, which is nothing new for most mass-produced or food-service green teas I've tried. The wet bag has a bit o...

Half-litre pot at home. Pours clear pale straw with no sediment. Mild aroma of green tea leaves, with hints of pine. Clean, bitterish flavour of green tea, leaving a slightly rough and astringent palate. Refreshing, well-balanced and evoking memories from my short trip to Japan eight years ago. Not in the cheap end (50...

When comparing among decaf green teas, Bigelow does live up to its name brand. This tea is less intense than its caffeinated cousin, but it has a relatively neutral aroma and no significant bitter aftertaste.

50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Salada is an affordable choice for a decaf green tea and is widely available in supermarkets, but it has a bitter aftertaste with an almost chemical overtone. The aroma is acceptable. I would suggest a different brand if you can find it.
