Adam's Peak White Tea from Imperial Tea Garden
Style: Silver Needle – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka63 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Aug. 10th, 2011
This was an interesting tea, recognizable as white tea, and more like Silver Needle in style than any other style of white tea, but still unlike any other white teas I've tried. I've tried brewing this tea several different ways.
With a briefer infusion and lower-temperature water, it brews a pale amber with a slig...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 9th, 2011
This is the same style as Rishi's Wuyi Qi Lan, and the two teas are very similar. I suspect that this is also a Qi Lan but I am not experienced enough with Wuyi teas to say for sure.
Rishi's Qi Lan (Wuyi oolong) is sweeter, thicker, more syrupy. This tea is more dry. Both teas have a pleasant hint of smokiness. ...
Organic Green Lu'An Melon Seed from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Lu An Melon Seed – Region: Anhui, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 9th, 2011
Aroma is predominantly grassy, more grassy than any other green tea--drinking it conjures up images of being out in my yard, digging around in the grass. There are some interesting floral tones. Flavor is rather muted; most teas with similar aromas are a bit more sour, astringent, and brisk, but this tea mainly leave...

Style: Black Tea – Region: Himalayas73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 4th, 2011
I ordered this after Upton discontinued one of my favorite teas, the Himalayan BOP (TM20). I was expecting this tea to be similar to that one, but overall, it had less of the qualities that I liked in that tea, and was considerably more expensive (still a good value but not a steal the way that one was), so I am disap...

This is one of those elusive teas that I am often searching for, with a Darjeeling-like character but packing more of a punch.
Aroma Darjeeling-like, with a strong fruity, muscatel quality. A tad more cooling and less warming than a Darjeeling. Slightly fresher tones. Dark color but relatively light body. Very s...
Vanilla Rooibos Parfait Full Leaf from Tazo Tea
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend15 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Aug. 3rd, 2011
Ugh. This one was sweetened, and I didn't expect it. Annoyingly, I can't find any info online about it being sweetened or what it is sweetened with. To me, this tastes extremely sweet, but I'm used to only drinking unsweetened tea. And from reading the commercial description, there's no way to know that it's sweete...

Style: Green Tea – Region: Nilgiri, India57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 2nd, 2011
My first Nilgiri green tea.
This was an interesting tea, but it was weaker in aroma than I would have liked. Tangy flavor, with tones of lemon or lime in the aroma. A hint of grassy tones, and cooked vegetable aromas as well, like asparagus. Almost a hint of vanilla in the aroma. Very much unlike Chinese or Japa...
Luzianne Tea from Luzianne
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 2nd, 2011
If you want a very basic tea, Luzianne delivers. I like it for a general black tea, or for making iced tea using hot tea bags. It provides consistent flavor that is as black tea should be, with nothing fancy.
You can find it on sale from time to time, but it's not too expensive normally. It is comparable to Lipto...
Peppermint Herbal Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: United States of America90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 2nd, 2011
I use peppermint tea to naturally help with digestive troubles I get. I really like this peppermint tea from Celestial Seasonings. It is very intense, though, so beware!
I don't find it to be sweet like candy canes, but just pure in peppermint flavor. It does help calm my stomach issues, which is most important t...
Ban Cha Green Tea from Hime
Style: Bancha – Region: Japan67 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 2nd, 2011
An inexpensive, fairly finely-broken Bancha that is of surprising quality for its price. I purchased 8 ounces for $4.39. The only downside is that it is a little tricky to brew well. Contains a lot of stem and broken pieces of large leaves.
Very rich aroma and flavor, but light and fresh. Strongly vegetal, but w...
Orange Blossom 100% White Tea from Republic of Tea
Style: Flavored White Tea – Region: ?????43 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 1st, 2011
White teas can be very subtle, and by the time they are processed shipped, stored, blended and sprayed with flavorings, it would be hard for them to assert any flavor. That is a problem with most of Republic of Teas flavored whites, including this one that I received from a well meaning friend.
The aroma is very fai...
Cardamon Cinnamon from Republic of Tea
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 1st, 2011
I received a tin of 36 bags, and have only managed to use about 6, as this has such a faint taste of cinnamon and cardamom. I wish there were more of an aroma, and that the taste wasn't so mild.
As with all of the tins from this company, there appears to be no way to tell how old this herbal mix is. I suspect it sa...
Sichuan Zao Bei Jian from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Zao Bei Jian – Region: Sichuan, China77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 30th, 2011
My first tea from Sichuan.
Surprisingly strong aroma like concord grapes, very different from the lighter muscatel aroma of Darjeeling or Bai Hao oolong. Smoky and woody tones in the aroma. Smooth, with a slightly dusty finish, and a hint of some floral nuances.
A very interesting tea and a very smooth tea. Fu...
Choicest Hairpoint Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: China63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 29th, 2011
The aroma of this tea is weak, even when I use more leaf than recommended, or a longer steeping time. I've experimented a bit with brewing and it always comes out weak for me. The tea has a strong savory flavor but is rather thin too.
Aroma is odd. Fairly strongly peppery, but with little complexity. Although th...
Cacaoberry Green Tea from Zhena's Gypsy Tea
Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Blend47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jul. 25th, 2011
A balanced but somewhat muddled tea. Brews a brownish-orange cup with a greenish tinge. Flavor is mild and smooth. Aroma is weak at first, but upon drinking, there's a strong fruitiness that emerges. I don't notice much of the base green tea, but the rooibos is definitely present.
Interesting to try, but unimpre...
Irish Breakfast from Adagio Teas
Style: Irish Breakfast – Region: Blend73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 24th, 2011
This is a really nice everyday black tea of moderate price and good quality. I am really picky about my Ceylon teas, like the 'Ceylon Sonata' that they use in this blend, and it is actually much improved in flavor by the 'Assam Melody' that they blend with it.
You get the typical nice robust aroma and flavor with t...
Wuyi Oolong from Rishi Tea
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 24th, 2011
I am really fond of this tea. I purchased a small bag of this from Rishi a few months back, and have grown to really appreciate the full body with it's roasty/nutty/grainy flavors and aroma. It has sweet notes as they describe it, especially when you steep it a second or third time.
I tend to brew this Chinese styl...

This has become one of the staples in my cupboard over the past year. It is one of those highly adaptable teas that seems to appeal equally to friends who are tea purists, and those who just want a "good cuppa' tea" as well.
Bold, smooth, slight malty flavor with a lingering caramel aftertaste. A very nice balance...

Organic Lavender Tea from Divinitea
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 19th, 2011
A fairly robust, standard black tea with a strong, but not overpowering lavender presence. Lavender can tend to have a resinous quality, leaving a sticky astringency on the palate; this tea has none of this potential flaw, which I am grateful for. It is quite balanced too, the base tea's aroma and flavor definitely c...

Jul. 18th, 2011
Over the past year I have had some really mediocre genmaicha's, so I was pleasantly surprised when I recently tried Adagio Teas version of this Japanese classic. The initial sweet and nutty aroma of the dry tea transforms to a roasted rice and popcorn aroma as the tea steeps.
The translucent infusion has a nice lig...
