Oolong Tea from Wei-Chuan
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: China47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 2nd, 2010
Overall, slightly flat...typical for a relatively generic oolong from a big box of teabags. Full-bodied...aroma is toasty and roasty, has some depth but also is a little bit reminiscent of cardboard. Some bitterness.
I've had a lot better oolongs from teabags. But this stuff is still better than a lot of the stuf...
Lapsang Souchong from Lupicia
Style: Lapsang Souchong – Region: Fujian, China93 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 1st, 2010
I love Lapsang Souchong and Lupicia don't do it any harm! A wonderful smokey aroma and rich flavor without any sour aftertaste. Really satisfying overall, and good with milk too!

Style: Genmaicha – Region: Japan50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
May. 30th, 2010
A fairly strong, but light aroma, mostly of popcorn, a sort of light, toasty quality. Much less nutty than other genmaicha's. Very little tea presence in the aroma, even using a generous quantity of leaf and brewing longer than recommended. Flavor has an oddly strong savory (umami) quality...almost no bitterness and...

Thank you Synth for sending me this one, and Marlena for sending some more. =)
This tea is VERY difficult to brew well, and is affected in major ways by subtle differences in water temperature and steeping time. That said, I've tried brewing this one multiple ways and I've gotten significantly better at brewing it,...
Golden Osmanthus Oolong (Huang Jin Gui) traditional style from Life in Teacup
Style: Golden Osmanthus – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
May. 28th, 2010
Mostly floral fragrance. This is the first huang jin gui I've tried, and it really does resemble osmanthus flowers in aroma, but I find it has a very different overall character from osmanthus-scented tea. Also, unusual among light, aromatic, greener oolongs I've had. This tea has some interesting surprises.
I tr...
Zingiber Ginger Coconut Rooibos Tea from Teavana
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 27th, 2010
This is one of my absolute favorite teas. It is a great morning pick-me-up or anytime in the day. It seems more like a treat than a typical beverage.
The flavors are distinct although the ginger doesn't always seem to come through. The aroma is fantastic, and a tough of sugar in the raw or stevia go a long way wi...
Chai from Tetley Tea
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: India37 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
May. 25th, 2010
i didn't enjoy this at all... the smell is boring, the "spice flavors" are practically nonexistent... this tea is just plain disappointing. i used one or two tea bags and then let the canister sit in the darkest recesses of the cupboard for ages.

This is a very mild and sweet green tea, similar to Teavana's Pi Lo Chun but less aromatic and perhaps slightly grassier. Pleasing but bordering on bland and boring if brewed as instructed. I find that with a very long steep time (8+ min), however, it acquires nuances in the aroma that are absent otherwise...includin...

meh. it smells good, and the color is this pretty purplish red, but the taste is only vaguely blueberryish. dont bother with this one, instead try their blueberry green tea, it's much, MUCH better!

it's got a silly name, and it does feel a little silly bringing this box out of the cupboard in the cold hard light of January, but it's such a treat! if tea can be "cute," that's what this is! i adore it.

i like this better than their blueberry herbal, it has more of a backbone, if that makes any sense. the tanginess of the blueberries comes through much better. it is good hot, but it makes an absolutely amazing iced tea.

i am just your average tea drinker, not really a connoisseur, just a chick who loves tea. this is the only darjeeling i've ever tried, but i really loved it. i remember the first cup i ever drank, it was quite an experience. i was very impressed. the flavor was so... intricate, somehow.

this tea is actually hot. i'm not talking about the boiling water, folks- i'm talking about SPICY hot. i am a heat junkie, so this was a special treat for me. i've never drank a tea that was so spicy it made my face sweat. the flavor was exquisite. the commercial description is accurate, but damn, i could write poetry ...

Oh. My. God. just... words fail. i got this as a free sample, and immediately regretted the fact that i had only one tea bag. i haven't been able to find it in a grocery store yet, but i think you can order it online. it was transcendent. this is the best 'flavored' green tea i have ever tasted.

it isn't exactly a flavor experience- but it's the best tasting medicine i've ever had! the word "echinacea," the weird green color of the tea (like spinach-water), the fact that it is, after all, medicinal, all contributed to my initial fears that this tea would be disgusting. it isn't. and it works! i rely heavily on...
